Lego as furniture? Dude, you’d need, like, a million bricks for that… unless the bricks were gigantic, of course. That’s the whole idea behind LunaBlocks — created by Thierry Nahon and Philippe Landecker of Lunatic Construction, the biggie bricks come in multiple colors and materials that are easily stacked together. Add a pane of glass or a pillow, and you’ve got fully functional furniture that looks straight out of Legoland!

LunaBlocks come in a number of types: your basic LunaBlock; LunaGlass, which are opaque and transparent blocks; LunaSoft, blocks made of durable polypropylene meant for kids; LunaLight, pillow-like material that’s used to create comfortable seating; and LunaMetal, blocks cast in steel.

Books on Earthquakes

If Barbie’s Dreamhouse had to suffer through an earthquake, what might her bookshelf end up looking like? That must have been on the minds of Swedish designers Smånsk. They showed a prototype of their Skew bookcase at the Greenhouse young designers showcase at the Stockholm Furniture Fair last month. Up until recently, an image of stability and order, bookshelves seem to be the muse for ever increasing wacky designs by product designers the world over. These “Skew” modular bookshelves are alternately stacked Lego style giving a much needed dose of action to your otherwise boring book collection. Watch them slide towards your “alternative lifestyle” collection of severed heads and tingle at the possibility of a serious paper cut.

Lego® Art

Do you really think that Lego® are for children? Nathan Sawaya is a big child! All of his artistic inspiration is expressed thanks to Lego®. The result is really amazing and particular! He is now exhibiting all his art in The Building For Kids, Fox Cities Children’s Museum, Appleton, WI, from October 6, 2007 until February 3, 2008.
