Continuing on my ceramics kick, I thought I’d do a post on Coe & Waito. The duo makes beautiful ceramic objects from porcelain, either by handbuilding or using moulds, and sometimes silk screening details on finished pieces.
From May 30, SCI-Arc will exhibit an object made of plastic, to redefine bricks.
Blobwall Pavilion, which is on view at SCI-Arc from May 30 through July 13, 2008, is a collaboration between Greg Lynn FORM, Machineous, who manufactured the bricks, and Panelite who produced and distributed the architectural material. Blobwall Pavilion is an innovative redefinition of the brick – architecture’s most basic building unit – into a lightweight object made of colourful plastic and reinterpreted into modular elements.
Tokyo-based design studios Curiosity and Tonerico brought fantasy and technology together.
The Tokyo Wonder installation, one of the works showed at the exhibition, reflected on Tokyo with a mix of fantasy and technology.
