Inspired by her grandmother’s needlework, Frédérique Morrel was upset that it was discarded when she passed away. This has been her motivation for salvaging vintage tapestries to create 0ne-of-a-kind soft furnishings and accessories. Frédérique Morrel products are a mix of needlework themes: idyllic alpine scenes are juxtaposed with old masters or cartoon kittens. The lunchbox above is a clever take on typical fast food containers, and there is a great cabin-chic lamp after the jump.

Back in September 2007 designboom held an exhibition of contemporary ceramics at Designersblock during the London Design Festival. The show, titled ‘handled with care’ featured 500 pieces by 163 established and upcoming designers from 35 countries. handled with care: contemporary ceramic design is the catalog from the show with highlights of 180 of the projects. As designboom says, it’s “a snapshot of contemporary ceramic craft”. It’s also a limited-edition, only 1000 copies will be printed (see some book spreads here). Danish crafts and design will be exhibited for the first time at FuoriSalone during Mindcraft, a display of work by 12 of Denmark’s top designers. Danish Crafts is organizing the show and the focus is on the transition from an approach to crafts that was previously based on materials, techniques and usefulness to one that is more concerned with the tension between art, crafts and design. The projects include digital bed linen, an inflatable bowl, a good-luck ring, aesthetic/grotesque figurines, a Styrofoam chair, a huge felt boulder, a luminescent damask table cloth, a soft bathtub, a ceramic rack, a clothes tree, a lower body mirror , and a laser-cut chair. The 12 participating Danish designers are ceramicist Anders Ruhwald, ceramicist Christin Johansson, ceramicist Louise Hindsgavl, textile designer Pernelle Fagerlund, textile designer Astrid Krogh, textile designer Dorte Agergaard Jensen, furniture designer Louise Campbell, furniture designer Ditte Hammerstrøm, designer Cecilie Manz, designer Ole Jensen, goldsmith Kim Buck, and goldsmith Carolina Vallejo.
