Kelly Reemtsen Cool Design Furniture Art

At Furniture Fashion we are big fans of design. I was excited to come across furniture art featuring some very famous pieces of mid century modern works. These art works are by Kelly Reemtsen. Kelly is a California painter that is a fan of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. You can see from all the paintings that she is a collector of these works and often incorporates them into here everyday imagery.

“Block”

Block: Turkish Marble Meets Design was an exhibition curated by Murat Patavi and held in the Milan’s Design Library in Zona Tortona during design week. Eighteen designers of international renown created work using Turkish marble, originally from the island of Marmara. These contemporary pieces vary tremendously in scope. Matali Crasset’s vanity shelf is framed by a giant robot-like figure, and Paola Navone gives us a marble sofa. Jurgen Bey created marble packaging for a hair dryer and an iron, and above we have detail from a divider by Marco Kogan. More after the jump by Konstantin Grcic, Michael Young and Simon Heijdens.

Handled With Care

Back in September 2007 designboom held an exhibition of contemporary ceramics at Designersblock during the London Design Festival. The show, titled ‘handled with care’ featured 500 pieces by 163 established and upcoming designers from 35 countries. handled with care: contemporary ceramic design is the catalog from the show with highlights of 180 of the projects. As designboom says, it’s “a snapshot of contemporary ceramic craft”. It’s also a limited-edition, only 1000 copies will be printed (see some book spreads here). Softcover, 112-pages, well illustrated, $19 at designboom.
